Before you appoint a marine surveyor
What information is needed for a Costa Rica marine survey quote?
Provide the exact marina or yard, vessel particulars, construction, purpose and date. Include lift, sea trial, road or air travel and any insurer, lender, registration or technical-inspection requirement.
Can one surveyor cover Guanacaste, Quepos and Golfito?
A surveyor may travel, but these are separate operating areas. The actual vessel location, yard capability, travel time and any accommodation should be agreed before appointment.
Is a private pre-purchase survey sufficient for Costa Rican registration?
Not automatically. Costa Rican rules require technical review by the maritime transport authority in defined registration, engine-change or vessel-dimension cases. Confirm the required process and document before instruction.
Can a survey be arranged on the Caribbean coast?
Potentially, but local leisure-yacht facilities and haul-out options are more limited than at the main Pacific marinas. Surveyor travel and a workable presentation plan must be confirmed first.
Are travel, haul-out and sea trial included?
Only when expressly included. Road or air travel, accommodation, yard fees, lift, wash, relaunch, skipper, fuel and specialist testing can be separate.
Who appoints the marine surveyor?
The client appoints and instructs the independent surveyor directly after agreeing scope, fee, timing and terms. Costa Rica Marine Survey provides information and introductions only.
